Kuno Ystrøm, assistant operations manager
I joined J.
Lauritzen in August 2008 having done my military service at the Royal
Lifeguard. The prospect of a future career in a busy, international
business environment tempted me including the potential of a posting to an
overseas office after having completed my traineeship.
I spent my first year of traineeship with J. Lauritzen's bunkers
department where my primary assignments were to purchase bunker oil
worldwide for the large fleet of vessels that are operated by Lauritzen
Bulkers, Lauritzen Kosan, and Lauritzen Tankers. In my second year of
traineeship I worked in the operations department of Lauritzen Bulkers,
where my tasks have been a large diversity. The traineeship has been a
great experience and fully met my expectations not least due to the
on-the-job training and the enormous responsibility I have been given right
away. And the mentors involved in my training play an important role. They
are not only willing to assist me when needed but also to share their
enormous knowledge within their field of business. Hopefully, I'll live
up to the responsibility given me. Another thing that has surprised me from
day one is the trust I'm shown which means that my senior colleagues
are not looking over my shoulder all the time to double-check my work.
